Italy to implement a new domain name registration law
To date, Italy has no specific laws concerning the registration of domain names.
The Italian Registration Authority (RA) is the Institute for Telematic Applications of the CNR (National Research Counsil) based in Pisa.
Recently the rules for registration have been amended and any individual, corporation or association can register as many domain names as it can afford.
This brought a “registration overflow, which caused many delays in the registration process. Before this liberalisation, the rule was “one subject—one domain name; now it is “one computer—one domain name. This rule was implemented between December 15, 1999 and January 15, 2000.
Now that anyone within the European Union can register as many domain names as they want, the need for clear, straightforward rules is paramount.
But are these the right ones?
